Dating back to 1865 when it was known as Camp McGarry, this historic cattle ranch lies in the Black Rock Desert about three hours north of Reno, Nevada and 60 miles beyond Bruno's Country Club in Gerlach, Nevada.

Soldier Meadows is a family owned working cattle ranch with over 500,000 acres of public and private land to enjoy.  We are one of the largest and remotest guest ranches in the nation.  Due to the beautiful, wide open spaces, natural resources, and historic values our area was recently named the Black Rock Desert/High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area. The rich history and natural resources of the area captured the attention of lawmakers in Washington and they decided that over 1.2 million acres needed to be preserved and set aside.  It truly is a beautiful area.  Come and see for yourself!

The ranch headquarters includes the main lodge, refurbished stone house (the original cavalry officer's quarters, now our ranch foreman's home), rock stables, and willow corrals.  The park-like lawns and natural hot springs are truly an oasis in the Black Rock Desert.  Please don't expect to call home, because we are miles from phones, faxes, and computers. Be prepared to enjoy a few days of living history.  Leave the cares of the world behind and enter another era.  Horseback riders can, take trail rides, ride out to the natural hot springs for a soak, or just explore our vast historic ranch.

You don't have to ride to enjoy this ranch.  It makes a wonderful base camp for explorations. You may chose to go chukar or mule deer hunting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking or 4-wheeling.  You can follow the Applegate/Lassen Trail through High Rock Canyon where the wagon wheel ruts are still visible, dig for opals at the neighboring opal mine or just relax at the ranch and visit with friends.  The open expansive beauty and natural hot springs are enough to rest any weary soul!!
